The YMCA is working together with our partner districts to devise our plans for the 2020-2021 School Year. Like you, the Y has been navigating uncharted territory as we develop plans to provide flexible and affordable child care while expanding enrichment and providing extended learning opportunities for children.
We are working diligently with our local schools and community partners to adapt and finalize options for your child’s out-of-school time.
Where necessary and available, it is our intention to provide both full day care and before/after school care to families of school age children. We will share these plans on our website as soon as they are available.
About YMCA School Age Child Care
With the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility as our guide, we work with kids every day to help them grow and thrive; and provide real life context to information learned in the classroom. For example, cooking projects help to teach fractions and journal writing helps to develop writing skills and promotes self-expression.
All our school age child care sites are fully licensed by the State of New Jersey and operate on a 1:15 staff to student ratio as required by the State.
Our After School Program
Parents know their children are safe in our school age child care programs. This has been confirmed again through surveys we conducted using a third party provider. In 2011, 9 parents out of 10 stated that they feel their children are safe in our school age child care programs. This feeling of security allows our families to be more productive at work or school, without having to worry about their kids when school dismisses.
As a growing number of school hours are devoted to increasing instructional time, the out of school hours are becoming increasingly critical to ensure the healthy development of our kids. Our program focus provides our children with a well-rounded experience of education, fun and fitness. We have adopted national healthy eating and physical activity standards for all school age care programs. We are committed to teaching our children the importance of having healthy habits for a lifetime.
