Princeton Young Achievers
Princeton Young Achievers was founded in 1993 by the late Dr. Shirley Paris and other concerned parents and teachers in Princeton who recognized the need to provide better academic support for children in Princeton’s public and affordable housing communities. Today PYA employs 14 part-time teachers, has a core of more than 40 active volunteers, and benefits from a broad base of community and institutional support that includes Princeton Housing Authority, Princeton Community Housing, Princeton Regional Schools and the Arts Council of Princeton.
Developed and led by two seasoned educators, “Early Birds” welcomes adult/child pairs (children ages 4 months to 3 years) in a welcoming and friendly setting. The goal is to give parents, grandparents and/or caregivers simple tools, strategies and routines to engage their children in conversation and promote learning activities at home.
