Update to Mask Policy
As of Friday, May 28, 2021:

On May 16, the CDC announced that individuals fully vaccinated for COVID-19 no longer need to wear a mask while indoors.  Governor Murphy and the New Jersey Department of Health have since announced that effective Friday, May 28, anyone fully vaccinated for COVID-19 is no longer subject to masking orders or social distancing mandates.  The indoor mask mandate in public spaces will be lifted, as well as the six-foot social distancing requirement in both indoor and outdoor spaces.

In accordance with this announcement, members, program participants and staff of the Princeton Family YMCA (twelve years old and above) who are fully vaccinated may utilize our facilities and participate in programs without a face mask.

Fully vaccinated is defined as:

  • 2 weeks after the second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines; or
  • 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine

If you do not meet the above requirements, you are NOT considered fully vaccinated and are therefore strongly encouraged to wear a mask when inside a YMCA facility and when outdoors on our grounds when social distancing cannot be maintained. We are counting on the integrity of our Y community to follow this guidance based on their vaccination status.

Until children are eligible for vaccines, our youth programs, including school age child care and summer day camp, will continue to follow CDC and state guidelines as they evolve for those specific areas of programming.  We will keep you updated on those changes.

In honoring our Y core values and respecting our fellow Y members, please remember individuals may continue to wear a mask because they are mid-vaccine or as an extra precaution. If you have any questions regarding the mask order while accessing the facility, please see a Member Associate at our Welcome Desk.

We will continue to maintain social distance around equipment and group exercise spaces, use a modified reservation system for lap swimming, and apply our enhanced cleaning practices.

These additional safety precautions will remain in effect and will be reevaluated in the upcoming weeks in accordance with the lifting of any other mitigation orders.

The safety of our members, participants and staff remain our top priority. We appreciate your care and respect for your fellow Y members as we continue to work together to maintain the safest environment possible.

To help manage social distancing, some lanes may be reserved by individual swimmers.  Due to these limits, reservations are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED.  Beginning May 28, two lanes will be set aside for circle swimming, available to walk-in members.

Lane reservations can be made:

  • Via the online system, using the button above
  • Calling our membership desk
  • In-person with our membership staff

Reservations are also available for Family Swim times.  For more information, contact Gary Burke at gary@princetonymca.org.

Health & Safety Protocols
  • Members who are not full vaccinated are required to wear a mask in the building until they enter the pool area. Since both the CDC and the New Jersey State Guidelines warn of potential drowning risks associated with wearing a mask while swimming, members in the pool are not required to wear a mask.
  • Both the CDC and the State of New Jersey state that lifeguards should not wear masks while actively guarding. Lifeguards are expected to wear a mask if they need to speak to someone or are walking on the pool deck. Members are asked to not spend extended periods of time speaking to lifeguards, both to avoid distracting the lifeguard and to limit potential exposure.
  • Swim instructors are required to wear a transparent face shield during their lesson, but they are not required to wear a mask due to the aforementioned potential drowning risks. Swim instructors will rotate out any equipment used between lessons so there is no sharing. All items will be sanitized after lessons.
  • During swim lessons, only one adult may stay on the pool deck per child and they must wear a mask if not fully vaccinated. Seating options are extremely limited at this time. Students taking swim lessons should come prepared with their bathing suits under their street clothes to limit locker room and bathroom traffic. They should be prepared to quickly dry off and exit the facility after their lesson is over.
  • Locker rooms are available for swimmers for showering and hygiene purposes.  We ask members not to leave their belongings in the locker rooms beyond their visit, as long-term rentals are unavailable at this time.
