Two decades ago, a landmark study found that by age 3, the  children of wealthier  professionals have heard words millions more times than those of less educated parents, giving them a distinct advantage in school and suggesting the need for increased investment in preschool programs. A new follow-up study has found a language gap as early 18 months.  Read more.

Here in Princeton, we are doing our part by launching a small, grassroots program, free of charge, called "Early Birds" at the Pannell Learning Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:00 am to 11:30 am.

Developed and led by two seasoned educators, "Early Birds" welcomes adult/child pairs (children ages 4 months to 3 years) in a welcoming and friendly setting. The goal is to give parents, grandparents and/or caregivers simple tools, strategies and routines to engage their children in conversation and promote learning activities at home.

Please help us spread the word about this small but mighty group! If you'd like to learn more, please contact Ann Vershbow

To participate or learn more, please contact Trinidad Rodriguez , 609-497-9622 x212, if you have questions or wish to learn more about the activities.

Each session is dedicated to being a friendly setting or "nest" in which children and their caregivers can have fun together while learning and growing.

The Early Birds program is one of the many youth development initiatives that the YMCA provides for the Princeton region.
