YOUTH SWIM LESSONS
Swimming Lessons for youth 6 through 12 years old
(45-minute classes)
Group Y1: class ratio 1:7
This class is designed for non-swimmers and beginner level swimmers who are uncomfortable or inexperienced in the water. It teaches basic water skills including gliding with face in the water, floating, and kicking. Your child will learn water safety in and around water and gain self-confidence.
Group Y2: class ratio 1:8
This level is for children who are comfortable in the water and able to swim at least 15-20 feet without a flotation device. Your swimmer should also be comfortable gliding and floating with face in water. Breath control is taught as well as stroke technique on front, back and side. Endurance is built and diving skills are taught.
Group Y3: class ratio 1:8
Your child in Group Y3 is able to swim 50 - 100 yards of freestyle with rotary breathing, backstroke, sidestroke and breaststroke. These skills are refined, butterfly is taught and strength and endurance are increased.
Group Y4: class ratio 1:10
The Y4 program is designed for your swimmer who is at a high level and wishes to further build their endurance and improve their swim technique, but is not interested in competing. In this final level, your child's stroke technique is refined, endurance and strength continue to develop and competitive starts and turns are introduced. Your child must be able to swim at least 50 - 100 yards of freestyle, backstroke, sidestroke, 25 yards butterfly and be able to dive.
Pirates Off-Season Training (OST) - March through August
A stroke, turn and technique clinic designed to improve precompetitive and competitive swimmers' skills and keep them conditioned during the off-season.
Private Swim Lessons: All ages
(30-minute class)
YMCA Private Swim Lessons are designed for swimmers who desire weekly one-on-one instruction. Semi-private lessons are also available if students have similar swimming abilities.
Splash Birthday Parties
Rent the YMCA pool for your next birthday party! A lifeguard will be provided during recreational time. A party room is provided for opening gifts, playing games and enjoying cake and snacks, if you would like to bring them.
