AQUATICS PROGRAMS

S.N.A.P. – Special Needs Adaptive Program

The Princeton Family YMCA’s Special Needs Adaptive Programming (S.N.A.P.) is a program designed to individuals ages 5 through 21 with special needs. Recognizing the need for quality adaptive programming for individuals in the Princeton region, S.N.A.P. is designed to help individuals grow confidence, promote independence and responsibility, socialize and work with others, as well as nurture a healthy and active lifestyle. All programs are lead by qualified, trained individuals who help promote a safe, friendly and supportive environment.

S.N.A.P AQUATICS: This class is designed for beginners through advanced individuals who need specialized attention in the pool to suit their needs.  Each student works one-on-one with an instructor.

SNAP Schedule and Fees

Home School Gym & Swim

Two Groups: K-3rd & 4th- 8th grade

Each week class will incorporate 45 minutes of gym time and 45 minutes of swim instruction. Gym time will be coached by a YMCA sports professional and will focus on building physical fitness in each child. Age-appropriate games, sports and activities will lead to improved fitness levels in your child. Swim instruction will focus on personal growth, personal safety, stroke development, water sports and rescue. Upon successful completion of each ability level, swimmers will receive a progress report. Perfect for home-school students of all ages!

Skills and Drills

Maintain what you’ve got! Stay in the water to keep fit for the winter by joining the Princeton YMCA’s Skills & Drills program. Stay in tip-top shape as we emphasize technique, drills, proper starts and turns. As a prerequisite, swimmers must complete Fish level.

Swimming Merit Badges

The Princeton Family YMCA offers Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts an opportunity to earn swimming merit badges. We also offer additional Boy Scouts of America certifications. For more information, please contact our Aquatics Department, 609-497-9622, x223.

Junior Lifeguard Training (class ratio 1:10)

12 through 15 years old

This class requires students to swim freestyle, breaststroke and sidestroke a minimum of 100 yards prior to participating. This is the club for swimmers who want to become certified lifeguards in the near future. They are taught basic water rescue, CPR and First Aid. Junior Lifeguards are hired by many facilities which is a great first-time job experience for teens!

CPR, Basic First Aid Certification and Re-certification Courses

15 years old to adult

All courses are offered by the American Red Cross, the most widely accepted health and safety certification provider across the nation. The following certification and re-certification courses will be held during the year through the Princeton Family YMCA: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Lay Responder, CPR for the Community, First Aid and AED. Course announcements will be made via our Web site when dates are scheduled – please check the site often or call 609-497-9622 x223. All Full-Facility Members, Program Members, and nonmembers may participate.

Lifeguard Training

This class will certify participants in American Red Cross Life Guard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and First Aid. Participants must attend all classes, pass a written exam and a final water test. If students do not pass the tests, they will have the opportunity to re-take the tests one time without an additional charge. Prerequisites: All students must be 16 years old before the class begins and bring proof of age to the first class. Swimmers must be able to swim 300 yards continuously, retrieve a 10 lb. brick from a depth of 9 feet, surface and swim 20 yards.

Splash Birthday Parties

Rent the YMCA pool for your next birthday party! A lifeguard will be provided during recreational time. A party room is provided for opening gifts, playing games and enjoying cake and snacks, if you would like to bring them.
